- Sift or add 1 to 2 scoops of matcha (about 2g) to your bowl.
- Add 65-75ml of hot water (80°C, not boiling, this is important to retain all the benefits and avoid a more pronounced bitterness! ☺️)
- Whisk vigorously in an "M" shape like "Maïdo" or a "W" shape with the chasen until you get a fine and creamy foam! If you're feeling a bit lazy and we understand, no problem: you can use an electric whisk. We won't (hardly) judge you for it!

The whisk: the key to perfectly prepared matcha
At Maïdo, we know that to prepare the best matcha, you need the right accessories. For this: nothing beats a good whisk, the instrument that respects the millennial tradition of Japanese tea.
Our Chasen (whisk) is not just any whisk. It is the soul of the ceremony, carved from bamboo according to the ancestral gestures of artisans. Each slat, meticulously hand-cut, vibrates under your fingers to transform matcha powder into a creamy and velvety foam.
It is the tool for true matcha lovers, for those who understand that preparation is part of the pleasure. A matcha whisk to be handled with consciousness, in calm, listening to the slight rustle of the bamboo against the bowl.
How to use a whisk effectively?
Step 1: relax the bamboo
Dip the tines in warm water for a few seconds to soften them. Your whisk should take a bath before each use (it's temperamental...).
Step 2: Prepare the matcha powder
Add 1-2g of matcha powder to your bowl. Ideally, use a bowl with a smooth bottom to avoid damaging the tines of your whisk.
Step 3: Time for the big bath
Add 65ml to 75ml of hot water (70-80°C) and stir gently at first, to incorporate the tea with the water.
Step 4: Lather
Whisk vigorously in rapid "M" (like Maïdo!) or "W" motions until a fine foam is obtained. The secret: use your wrist, not your whole arm.

FAQs
First, soak the tines in warm water to soften them. Pour the matcha powder into your bowl, add a little hot water (70-80°C), then whisk rapidly in "M" or "W" motions. The secret: use your wrist, not your whole arm.
After use, simply rinse your matcha whisk (chasen) under warm running water without using soap or detergent, which could alter the taste of your tea. Gently shake it to remove excess water, then let it air dry, ideally on a whisk holder or placed on a clean cloth with the prongs facing upwards. Ensure it is completely dry before storing it in a well-ventilated area to prevent mold and extend its lifespan.
Yes, it's completely normal for your matcha whisk (chasen) to shed a few tines when you first start using it.
Bamboo whisks are handmade, and it's common for a few bristles to come loose during the first few uses. This doesn't affect the whisk's performance or compromise the quality of your matcha. Over time, your whisk will stabilize.
To minimize bristle loss, make sure to briefly soak the whisk in hot water before each use, avoid scrubbing vigorously against the bottom of the bowl, and ensure proper drying after each use.
It's natural! Bamboo can slightly age with time and use, especially if the water is hard. As long as there's no mold, it's simply a sign of a well-used and living tool.
It is not mandatory, but a stand (naoshi) helps preserve the shape of the teeth between uses. In the meantime, a simple narrow glass does the trick for drying it upright.
We do not offer this stand at the moment, but we are working on adding this product to our catalog.
Absolutely not! Bamboo is sensitive to high temperatures and harsh detergents. A simple rinse with lukewarm water is sufficient, followed by natural drying, standing upright on its stand or in a glass.
Matcha, but not just anyhow
It all started in Japan, with a rejection... then a revelation. I couldn't find that matcha, the one that made me slow down, savor, and understand, anywhere in France. So, we decided to share it, genuinely, without fuss, and without strange powders.
Behind Maïdo Matcha, there's a real story, encounters, suitcases full of tea, and a lot of curiosity.
Maïdo is much more than matcha
At Maïdo Matcha, we don't do things by halves. Our teas are grown in Japan, respecting traditions, without additives or questionable powders. We prioritize authenticity, transparency, and a sincere approach, no unnecessary fuss.
Our partners share this vision: eco-responsible logistics, zero plastic, 100% green energy, and humane and equitable working conditions.
And above all, we remain true to our mission: to help you discover exceptional matchas, to be accessible, honest, and always a little bit complicit.
